Do You Qualify for Laser Eye Surgery?
A comprehensive eye exam is the first step in the corrective eye surgery process. One of the most important things we check for is the presence of eye diseases that might make you ineligible for laser eye surgery. The earlier we can diagnose an issue, the better for everyone.
We also want to confirm that your eye is no longer changing shape, as this would make surgery more complicated. Once you are considered to have stable vision (a consistent prescription year-over-year), we can consider laser eye surgery as a viable option.

How LASIK Works
With a success rate of 90%, LASIK has become the most popular laser eye surgery procedure in North America. It’s common for a patient to achieve 20/20 vision following the surgery, although results vary from person to person.
LASIK surgery works by folding back a flap on your cornea and using a precision laser to change the shape of your eye. The surgery can be limited if there is not enough corneal tissue to remove a safe amount. But success rates are extremely high, and LASIK is considered a safe procedure when you are ready.
Reliable Alternatives to LASIK
If LASIK isn’t the best surgery solution for you, we can explore other methods. Depending on your specific eye situation and the ophthalmologist’s opinions, it could make sense to move forward with alternate surgery methods.
PRK
Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is a laser-assisted technology that also changes the shape of the cornea. In this procedure, the top layer of the cornea is completely removed and a precise laser fixes deeper layers of the cornea.
Refractive Lens Exchange
A refractive lens exchange works by replacing the eye’s natural lens with an intraocular lens (IOL). The lens may be replaced to correct refractive errors or to eliminate cataracts.
